Frequently Asked Questions
What size machete should I choose for the garden?
For general garden use (pruning, light brush cutting), a 36 to 40 cm blade is ideal. For large areas or dense vegetation, opt for 46 to 51 cm. The 46 cm size offers the best compromise between versatility and maneuverability.
Garden machete or survival machete: what's the difference?
Tramontina gardening machetes are suitable for both uses. Short blades (36–40 cm) are more suited for the garden, while long blades (51–56 cm) are preferred for outdoor use, hiking, and wilderness survival.
How to maintain a carbon steel machete?
After each use, wipe the blade and apply a thin layer of mineral or vegetable oil to prevent rust. Sharpen regularly with a medium-grit stone (400–600), following the original angle. Store in a dry place, in its sheath.
Why is carbon steel better than stainless steel for a machete?
Hardened carbon steel is harder and offers a finer, more durable edge than stainless steel. It is particularly suitable for heavy-duty cutting tasks, even though it requires regular anti-rust maintenance.
